69ers Cool the Tropics in a Heated Matchup
The 69ers earned their first win of the season in convincing fashion, defeating the Tropics 4–2.
Wadhams opened the scoring in the first period to give the 69ers a 1–0 lead. In the second, the 69ers broke the game open: Komst made it 2–0, followed by Parkin extending the lead to 3–0, and Stubbins adding another to push the advantage to 4–0 late in the period. The Tropics responded with just 12 seconds remaining in the frame, as Budd got them on the board to make it 4–1 heading into the third.
In the final period, Condon cut the deficit to 4–2, but the 69ers held firm defensively the rest of the way. Adrian MacDonald was solid in net, stopping 17 shots to secure the win as the 69ers closed out their first victory of the campaign.
